I had a really good weekend – Socializing, chilling and just being downright lazy
Saturday we had a wedding in the Magaliesburg. We (hubby and I) left home just after 9.30am, picked up a friend and set out for the venue. Traffic was bad as usual – thanks to roadworks and Saturday shoppers. Hubby took a wrong turning but luckily realized in time.
We reached the Magalies at around 12.30pm and stopped at Wimpy for a spot of lunch. I had my favourite of Calamari and chips. Finished 1.20pm and drove two minutes down the road to the venue.
The wedding was set for 1.30pm.We parked and rushed into the chapel to relax for five minutes. Luckily the bride took her time. She was gorgeous – as all brides are. The ceremony was short and sweet. After throwing roses petals and giving congratulations we all moved to the lawn behind the chapel.
It was a stunning spot . A lawn dotted with huge shady trees sloped down to the Magalies River .Tables and chairs were set under the trees for us to relax. The Wedding Cake (carrot cake) was set out on a small cloth covered table as was Jugs of juice and lemon water as well as sparkling wine. The cake was cut – this seems to be how the modern wedding goes as this is not the first wedding I have been to where the cake is cut first. While we all refreshed ourselves and ate cake the photographers got down to business. It certainly was very relaxing and peaceful with the background noise of the river and the birds. We even had a visit from a monkey who sat in front of a nearby chalet watching us.
About 4.30 we all made our way up a steep path to a small Lapa where we were to have our evening meal. Everyone settled down at their designated spot and proceeded to partake of all on offer from the bar. Hubby and I had Rock Shandies ( Yes we are both old fogies who must keep their wits about them as nighttime driving is harder when you get older).
Eventually the Bride and Groom joined us and we partook of the Buffet Starters which consisted of delicious salads from Prawn Salad and Couscous to Green Asparagus with Lemon and Herb Cream. All was very tasty. After a decent interval the speeches were delivered. They too were short and sweet.
Next came the main course from the Buffet. I chose Lamb Curry with rice and Ostrich Steaks with Green Peppercorn Sauce . I get these days where I eat according to my blood group and both these meats are Highly Beneficial for me. I Felt Very Virtuous. Hubby loaded his plate with Roast Fillet of Beef and Kassler Ribs with Veggies and a piece of fish. My choice was absolutely mouthwatering. It was my first taste of Ostrich too. I found it to be melt - in-the - mouth delicious – it actually tasted like beef more than chicken. I had a glass of red wine with the meal as I am a great believer in The One Glass Of Red Wine A Day For Heart Health.
Last but not least was the Dessert Buffet which carried on the tone of the food already served. There was all from Fruit Salad to Tiramisu to Chocolate Mousse. I chose Chocolate Mousse and Apple Pie.
It was a perfect ending to a fabulous meal. We had a super time feeding our faces, chatting to old friends and making new friends. It was now time to leave and wend our weary and bloated way home.
Sunday was my downright lazy day. We all slept late and then Hubby carried out his weekly duty of making breakfast- in-bed for me. I read until eleven and then got up to feed the dogs – all 7 of them. The rest of the day was spent reading and being very lazy. Lunch was help yourself (Cheese and biscuits for me) and then back to reading. At about six I had my daily dose of medicine( A Glass of Red Wine). I stirred myself and put a chicken in to roast (Not Highly Beneficial). I have let you know about my weekend as it has cooked. With a break while we had one of our Power Failures – Luckily of short duration. We are off to eat now.
Cheers and enjoy your evening. Will tell you about my Monday tomorrow night.
